Just had another reminder of why I hate pot-holes
I was cycling home for lunch. Had been going quite fast down St Giles, so was still braking as I turned into Little Clarindon Street. Didn't seem to be the usual gaggle of pedestrians standing in the way, so I wasn't worrying too much about my speed.
Then, coming further round, I spotted a cyclist coming at a fair speed the other way along the road, who'd just pulled out to avoid a pot hole.
I decided not to scare him by getting stupidly close (as I would've done if neither of us had done anything), so I turned a little bit harder, so we'd pass by a large margin.
Around the point that I turned that bit more, while still breaking, I hit a small pot hole.
Next moment, I'm lying on the road, my bike just behind me. Doh!
So, I now have some impressive grazes on my left elbow, which align themselves nicely with where I generally rest my arms when typing, grr. Also have a few other smaller grazes, which are going to make the swim fitness training session tonight, well, interesting...
Such is the price you pay for cycling at speed in Oxford I guess
In other news, I'm really loving Opera 6.12 for Linux. The anti aliased text has grown on me, and I now like it. I've also figured out how to re-tweak the fonts, so I can ensure they look sensible. Oh, and I've installed it in labs, and it's soooo much faster than Mozilla :-)
