Rio Karma [Apr. 6th, 2004|09:50 am]
Nick
Well, my shiny new Rio Karma has arrived :-)

It's smaller than I expected, and the docking port is too. Alas, since the power supply is US (as expected, given how I bought it), I can't plug in the docking station to play with it over the ethernet. Still, it came half charged and loaded with some music, so I can play with it straight off.

Now to get the docking station running, and play with it some more. It doesn't yet work with Linux under USB (vend/prod 0x45a/0x5210 if that helps anyone), I'll just have to wait until I get home....

not a car, then...

(Quidity (http://www.livejournal.com/users/quidity/)) Rio Karma sounds far too much like a cheap make of Korean car. Rio should be less confusing in future.

PX

One thing useful in living in a British Camp / CPA (read American, or am I being too scathing) is that there is now a PX here. A PX that sells Rio Karmas. Which I have just brought :-)

Have you had a chance to play with it much yet?

Re: PX

Nah, I haven't really had a chance to play, which is a bit annoying (I hope it works having shipped it all this way!). I also brought a shiny new GPS

I think the ethernet will run w/o the power adapter.
I just got mine yesterday, found you by searching google for rio karma site:livejournal.com

I'm desperatly looking for sucessfull mod stories and workings of it in linux (outside of the ethernet and java)

And i hope my hdd doesnt go out as yours appears to have :P

My hard disk seems to be behaving, for now. Touch wood, should stay that way...

The only linux stuff I know is still Ethernet and Java, but there are two options:
http://karmalib.sourceforge.net/
https://rmml.dev.java.net/

From the rmml site, you can get newer versions of the rio manager lite, and a few command line tools that look nifty. KarmaLib have some interesting ideas, but not much progress of late
