Free IPods Come to the UK [Apr. 15th, 2005|06:04 pm]
Nick
I'm sure most of you have seen the free ipod offers floating around the net of late. A few of them are dodgy, the rest are pyramid schemes (but otherwise legit). All of them were US only. Several of them have had good write-ups in the press.

Today, I noticed FreeIpod.co.uk, a UK one. A quick read of their T&S shows it to be much like the better US one. Privacy policy looked fine too. True, you'll end up signing up for some junk, but there is a free ipod in it for those in the right point of the pyramid.

So, I signed up (with a mostly junk email address) to see what it was like. The real test with these schemes is the offers - do you actually have to spend any money to qualify for them? The sign-up was a bit of a pain - you have to click "No" to about 10 unrelated offers first. After that, you're through to the real offers page, and it didn't take too long to skip the crud.

The offers page showed promise. There are actually several you can do without spending any money at all. They have an Ebay one - sign up and bid (but not necessarily win, so bid 99p on something that's going to shoot up in price, I've found newly listed P 4's are good for that). They also have a few alternate phone companies, which seem like if you sign up but don't pay anything they'll accept it. I've done the ebay one without any problems, and I'll try another one tonight.

So, on the offers front it looks ok. For a little bit more junk mail, and no cash spent, you can match them. Just persuade 5 friends to do the same (i.e. be far enough towards the top of the pyramid), and you're there.

If you fancy giving it a try, then my referral is http://www.freeipoduk.co.uk/index.php?REFID=114612. As long as you can get enough people downstream of you, we all ought to win. If not, sorry about the extra junk mail....
