Custard Courgette [Sep. 26th, 2005|07:39 pm]
Nick
Probably the coolest random vegetable since the last one I found:

Custard Courgette

The Good Food Shop in Charlbury (source of sandwiches for lunchtime, but also cakes, beans, rice, ecover products, usual random things) has started to stock a small amount of local organic veg. Today they had a few normal veg items, and two of the coolest looking things - custard Courgettes!

I'm off to cook my mini UFO. I think they're best cooked like squashes, but google is strangely unhelpful. They can't be that rare, can they....?

custard squash recipe ideas

1.BAKED CUSTARD COURGETTE WITH CHEESE
boil till tender, then removing the stalk and seeds to make a well in the middle. Then add some grated cheese (cheddar or any of your choice), chopped onions & pepper. Mix together with the seeds that you removed earlier. Then just add some more grated cheese at the top and bake in the oven for 15 minutes or so. Hope you get the idea. Quite popular in Mauritius.

2. CUSTARD COURGETTE SALAD
You could also boil till tender and chop into small cubes. Add sald dressing of choice. Vinaigrette is good enough

Hope you enjoy the recipes
