Google Maps for the Cotswolds OpenGuide [Dec. 24th, 2005|07:25 pm]
With Dom's help, there's now google maps support in the Cotswolds OpenGuide.

Firstly, we have the map enabled index, which shows all the nodes on the map. Then, we have maps against all the entries with geodata entered for them (either the lat/long or the OS easting/northing). To see them, make sure you have "Display Google Maps" enabled in your preferences, and "Display Lat/Long as degrees" disabled (though Dom's working to fix that bug).

Oh, and the keen observers might note that all the entries are showing about 50m off. That's because the OS lat/long values (and the easting/northing map refs that're based on them) use a different elipse system to the global WGS84 system. It's all to do with best fit elipses, and luckily there's a very detailed description on all the differences on the OS website. Dom hopes to write a funky CPAN module for converting between the systems (and hence removing the 50m offset), but for now you'll just have to cope with the error, sorry.

Re: Geeking

We're not playing articulate until tonight :)

Yesterday, the girls were making Dom's birthday cake, so we had to find something to entertain ourselves with out of the kitchen!
