Having braved the trains, and been thankful of our reserved seats in first class, we've made it up to Morpeth. The trains were amazingly full, as it seems Virgin cross country failed to take the hint from the news, and run trains of an appropriate size.... Oh, and it turns out that they sold us some of the tickets without railcard discounts, despite being told we all had them. Still, they did run the train, and have it on time, which is better than First Great Western (who cancelled my train from Charlbury back to Oxford last night, and seemed to think that asking us to wait for 2 hours in freezing fog when the waiting room was locked was ok! Luckily the agreed to pay for a taxi after much shouting, but that's a rant for another time)|
I had last week off, as I had some holiday to use up before the end of the year. So, I popped down to see my parents for a few days. It was a nice mix of chatting, chilling, eating and mapping, with the result of the latter being a nice improvement of the Bournemouth coverage.
We're now up in Morpeth, with Hilary's family. It looks like a fairly busy schedule, with various visits, meeting people, and doubtless too a bit of mapping! After that, we're back to Oxford for a night, down to my parents again for a couple of days, and finally back to Oxford for New Years. Should be fun, but fairly busy too!
On a totally different note, don't ever be tempted to buy anything from
B&Q Appliance Warehouse. Their lying and incompetence (as shown here) is quite astonishing. However, itchyfidget has found John Lewis to be just as excellent as you'd hope :)
