A random collection of small things [Apr. 18th, 2003|05:04 pm]

Yes, I know I still haven't written about the boatrace weekend yet. I will do it soon, honest....

I went down to the beach this afternoon. You know it's going to be bad when you can't park in the first carpark you try, and when the traffic is nearly back as far as the landsdown.... Anyway, found somewhere to park, and headed down to Bournemouth beach. Met up with some friends from Lifeguarding, chilled out, enjoyed the sun. It was good. I rang up Hilary to let her know I was at the beach (evil, I know ;-), she wasn't impressed! Also took a few photos with my phone.

Speaking of the phone, I've got most stuff about it working with Linux now. I can send and receive files over BlueTooth, I can mount the phone as a Linux drive(!), use the phone to remote control XMMS (v.cool), all good. I've even managed to get it connecting to the Internet (as opposed to just the Wap gateway) over GPRS, so I can use it to check my email. Now for someone to write an ssh client....

I've mostly resisted the temptation to write programs for my phone. Not sure how long I'll be able to keep that up.

I still haven't had my contract through from TorchBox, but not too supprised by this by now. I've had an email from one of the guys there, and he's going to post me a few books on the technologies I'll be using there that I don't already know. If it wasn't for that, I might start getting slightly techy about the lack of a contract, but if they're sending me books then they probably do intend to hire me as promised!

Need a house in Oxford for next year. Need some people to live with. Any takers?

Buffy is quite good, Angel is even better. 24 is good, but not quite as good as it has been. Everyone from Firefly seems to be in Buffy and Angel. I'd say more, but not many people have seen eps 19 (or 18 for Buffy). Shame on you....

Airlie has re-appeared! The end of the world is nigh! ;-)

Baz has rather foolishly agreed to help out with the Uni Lifesaving Site, the mad fool. Dave has given Baz an urchin account, madder fool cheers mate ;-)

I hate WTLS Certificates. Even more of a hack than WAP was. Why can't mobile phone people learn from the rest of the computing industry, rather than keep remaking the wheel, and doing it badly?

I still hurt from Beach Training on wednesday. I think I need to exercise more.

And that's about it for a random selection of things. Until next time....
