Traffic [Jul. 3rd, 2003|09:17 am]
Nick
As many of you will know, I've been borrowing the car I share with my sister this week, and I'll have it again next week. Through this, I've been driving to work.

Few things I've discovered. 1 - it's a long way from my house to work. 15 miles worth of long, which is a bit more than I'd like for cycling there. 2 - traffic coming out of Jericho and heading for the ring road is just generally slightly bad all day long. 3 - The traffic going the other way, until a bit beyond the ring road, is always very bad.

Today I discovered a few more things. 1 - It's even further from Hilary's house to work. While it's only another 5 or so miles further, it takes about 15 minutes more. 2 - traffic from Cowley round to Botley is really bad in the mornings. We're talking 10-15mph for most of the way round the south of the ring road, and even less on much of Cowley road. 3 - During the rush hour, everyone ignores the speed limit through Botley. Any other time, most people stick to it. This morning, practically no-one did.

All this leaves me with two problems - how best to get to work when I no longer have the car, and how to convince the people I'm likely to be living with next year that we don't want to live around Cowley, since the journey to work will be much worse. (Headington would be fine, as you'd go the other way round the ring road. Iffley would be OK, as you wouldn't be in the slow bit quite as long. Even more so for Abbingdon Road. Summertown / Jericho would be great....)

Right, now to start work for the day....

Buy a Car?

Am I being a little silly, or could you simply fix your problems by buying a car? It's not like you won't have the money...

Re: Buy a Car?

Given that I can have the fiesta once my sister goes to Uni, I'd rather not buy one just yet. Current plan is to make do until September, then have the fiesta until christmas, and buy a car then
