Punting Yesterday [Jun. 13th, 2004|04:52 pm]
Yesterday afternoon, I went for my first punting trip of the year, to celebrate Jo finishing her finals. I would say I learnt three things:
  • It sucks to no longer be at a college with free punts, but to instead have to queue up then get crappy ones
  • The metal poles given out with the Bridge punts are sooo much worse than nice wooden ones
  • Ducklings like eating strawberries (sorry, we didn't think to take a photo, but I did have three of them pecking bits of a strawberry that I was holding)

Re: Not true.

Leaving aside college affiliations and prejudices, the punts you get from the Cherwell Boathouse are much nicer than the Magdalen ones. Okay, you don't get wooden poles, but you do get punt-shaped punts.

And you just need a little planning to avoid queues.

Even with wonderful college punts it's getting hard to find a *good* wooden pole.

Last year's punts reps could only get metal ones to replace the ones that broke, so the few wooden ones that are left are either a bit splintery or slimy.

Dangerous ducks

Yeah I've run into those ducklings before (or their ilk) while out punting on the Cherwell. Ah it's been such nice weather this week I really wish I'd been back in Oxford. Guess I'll just have to do a D.Phil after all...
