Space [Jul. 22nd, 2004|10:09 pm]
Two kinda space related things. Firstly, NASA have dug their Apollo 11 photos out of the freezer, and scanned them. You can view them here, and there are some very stunning shots there. Some of the earth rise ones are just amazing.

Secondly, I ordered the new Battlestar Galactica mini series DVDs from amazon a few weeks ago. Wil Wheaton's Just A Geek finally came out in the UK, so my order shipped and I got the DVD yesterday (I'll review JAG once I get a chance to read it, might be a while)

I can remember watching Galactica many many moons ago, probably when it came round on UK TV for the second time. When I heard they were remaking it, I was a little dubious of it. I then didn't hear much more about it either way, and had mostly forgotten. Then, Amazon were evil and suggested I buy a copy, and offered me a very low price on it. A quick check of the reviews showed that it was actually pretty well regarded, so into the shopping basket it went.

It is really really good. Hell, even the 20 minute making of thingy was actually pretty good! Yes, a couple of the characters had become female, but that was a good thing godamit! It was slick. Visually stunning. Very good script, it really engaged you, made you feel for the characters. This is what SciFi should be like, but so often isn't.

I really enjoyed it, and would recommend it to anyone into SciFi. I may even recommend it to Hilary, but I'm not sure how it'll go down.... Roll on the full series, due for spring of next year :)

Hmm. Only UKP13 for the miniseries? Tempting...but I think the House of Cards trilogy gets priority. :)

Never really got into Farscape myself. I suppose at some point, I should really borrow the first season of someone and give it a try. Need to get through the other box sets I've bought first though

Well, you should, but I wasn't talking about Farscape - I meant the adventures of Mr Urqhart...

Ah. I types "House of cards" into google and got this Farscape here.

The one you meant looks all the more interesting, I might have to borrow it from you when you're done with it. I'd lend you Galactica, but Simon's already pinched the DVDs, and I think Ganesh wants them next.... I'll give you a shout when they're next free!

Ha! Google doesn't know everything after all. :)

Did you not see House of Cards first time around? I remember watching it - it aired at about the time that Thatcher fell (or at least, so my memory has it). Ian Richardson is utterly brilliant. And yes, you can happily borrow it when I'm done, but you'll have to wait for me to, like, buy it first...
