Supersize Me [Sep. 11th, 2004|11:45 pm]
Today, I cycled for 50 minutes to a beer festival in Headington Quarry, had half a pint, then cycled back. (Cycle there was so long because I couldn't find the pub, so did laps of Headington looking for it). I then cooked a healthy (and in hindsight vegan) meal using up all the vegetables from the fridge, some chick peas, and Quinoa.

After that, Hilary and I cycled to Jericho, and watched Supersize Me. For those who haven't heard of it, it's about a guy who attempts to eat only at McDonalds for a whole month.

Overall, it's a very good film. Many parts were interesting, and he did get a wide variety of people to talk (including lobbists for the food industry). Quite a lot of it was depressing (statistics on eating, food in most schools, addiction, getting young children into fast food, the huge effects on his body etc). All of it made you think.

I rated it as not quite so watchable (in terms of humour, flow, and full on depressing the hell out of you) as Fahrenheit 911, but more watchable than OutFoxed. It's on at the Phoenix for the next two weeks, so those in Oxford should probably go see it. It's good, you'll like it.

However, we thought it was quite ironic that his last meal before starting the diet was vegan with quinoa, and that he had to stop doing as much exercise so he could be more typical of americans. Perhaps the film wasn't going to have it's full effect on us....
