Restarting pppd [Nov. 9th, 2004|03:49 pm]
Nick
This morning, after I'd gone to work, Blackcat did some maintenance they'd previously announced. Annoyingly, it lasted long enough for pppd on my home machine to get bored of retrying, and it shut down. Bye bye ADSL connection.

I think what I need is something that notices pppd having given up, and prods it to start again. I suspect this sort of thing was needed back in dial up modem days, so should exist. Does anyone happen to know of a good program to do this?

pppd options

A quick perusal of the Fine Man Page leads me to suggest:

persist
maxfail 0

in your pppd options file. Does that help?

Re: pppd options

Might do, but I think once pppd gets all confused, and I'm not sure if persist will be enough to get it unconfused

Some other reading suggests that using init to respawn it might be the way to go.
