New Oxford Tube [Jan. 17th, 2005|08:16 am]
Last night, I headed down to London for Ollie's housewarming party (which incidentally was good). I caught one of the shiny new Oxford Tube's.

I think the new ones are slightly longer than the old ones, but maybe it's just that the staircase is near the back that gives the impression. The seats are a bit further apart, so you have more space to yourself. There's certainly enough space to comfortably have a laptop on your lap. Also, the bus now sports power points for your phone or laptop, and unlike on virgin trains the power doesn't seem to keep failing! Also features a bigger and less dingy toilet than the old ones had.

I also think they run slightly more frequently than before. All in all, a nice improvement on the service. Very nice new coaches, up to one every 10 minutes, it's a fiver for a 2 day return leaving after 3pm, it has got to be one of the best coach services there is!

Now I just need to try the new X90 (also now with power points), and pick which of them I prefer.

Bus of the future

Ah, but no wireless connection - you get those on the GNER trains (although admittedly not on Thames Trains.)

Re: Bus of the future

Annoyingly, there only seems to be about 10 gner trains with wireless, and I've yet to go on one despite a few GNER trips of late, bah...

I've had no problem with mobile reception on the Oxford Tube, so I can always do GPRS for my internet access while on one

Re: Bus of the future

This was Ollie who wrote that comment and this one, by the way.
